The WCRP Open Science Conference will be held from 24-28 October 2011 in Denver, Colorado, USA, marking the 30th anniversary of WCRP.
This meeting of the international climate research community will identify key scientific challenges to increase the understanding and prediction of Earth’s climate system on all space and time scales. It will also help WCRP develop new projects and initiatives to coordinate national efforts and advance its scientific objectives.
OSC will consist of plenary presentations and discussions by leading scientists and conference participants who are informed by community-based position papers. All sessions are structured to foster discussion and dialogue. More details about the program are available at the OSC web site (http://www.wcrp-climate.org/conference2011).
Considerable travel support is available for students and early career scientists, the deadline is stated above.
Early Career Scientist Workshop
The National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) will also hold a 3-day Workshop on Regional Climate Issues in Developing Countries in conjunction with the WCRP OSC for early career scientists (post-graduates and researchers who received their Ph.D. in 2005 or later).
Forty participants will be selected to explore how observations, modeling, analysis, and process research can be used to address regional climate issues. The Workshop will be at NCAR in Boulder, CO, USA, from 19-22 October 2011. Applications must be received by 31 March 2011; details on applying could be found at:
